Splitting Adgroups to Maximize QS Score

If you’re struggling with a ‘Poor’ or ‘OK’ quality score when your keyword, ad text, and landing page are all particularly relevant, try splitting the adgroup (even if it’s only two keywords). Then, if you truly are relevant, sit back and watch the ‘Poor’ and ‘OK’ keywords move up a notch to ‘OK’ or ‘Great’ over the next few days.

Adwords reps have been using this tactic for a few months now according to some affiliates who have pushed Google on seemingly mistaken QS scores. They take the adgroup, split it with no other changes and within a few days the QS goes ‘Great’.

If you try it, make sure you stick with the same ad text and landing page to effectively evaluate the result.
