The internet is a buzz today with the news that Yahoo will team up with Microsoft and their search engine Bing to try to take a bite out of Google.
The 10-year deal announced Wednesday gives Microsoft access to the Internet’s second-largest search engine audience, in order to better confront Google, which is by far the leader in online search and advertising.
Google tried to stop Yahoo from falling into Microsoft’s lap. Last year it formed its own proposed search advertising deal with Yahoo, only to be forced to cancel that alliance after U.S. antitrust officials threatened to sue.
Even with Yahoo’s help, Microsoft has their work cut out for them. Combined, Microsoft and Yahoo handle 28% of the Internet searches in the United States, well behind Google’s 65%. Google is even more dominant in the rest of the world, with a global share of 67% compared to a combined 11% for Microsoft and Yahoo.
“Microsoft and Yahoo know there’s so much more that search could be. This agreement gives us the scale and resources to create the future of search.”
-Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer
Our friends at Webmasterradio released a special round-table discussion on the partnership. You can check it out here.
Wow! Finally Microsoft has reached a deal Yahoo for an internet search partnership. Will the newly announced deal between giants Microsoft and Yahoo be a good thing? Got to wait and see. But atleast Microsoft and Yahoo deal is straightforward and not complex at all and ofcourse, the negotiation talks have been going for long. I was just curious to know all the past negotiations between Microsoft and Yahoo so collected all the articles and links (more than 200) related to the current merger and the previous events or negotiations between Microsoft and Yahoo. If you are interested check the link below.

so now they are trying to use brute force to take on google…i still don’t think its gonna work..google has far superior search technology….even if you combine yahoo and microsofts technology, they still dont equal the power of google. take over in ads may be possible but not search quality.
I don’t think the point is to “take over Google,” at a 65% share of search that would be near impossible (at least in the foreseeable future). Rather the whole point of this is increasing ad revenue and reach. Consider that with this move MS has nearly tripled it’s ad reach. This is a case where being #2 is still a winner. As much as I like Google, I welcome any alternatives to dealing with their heavy-handed Adwords policies.
Google Navigate would be more interesting if it could drive your nervous system. I want “Evade” mode.
There’s a great article here:
